As an initial strategy, we are continuing with the renovation work carried out on warehouse 8, using its structure as an element that supports our idea.
Starting from a more rigid area in terms of preservation and uses, the weight of the project falls on the large hall. The steel frame serves as a canvas for the creation of multiple routes that undoubtedly allow for the “delobotomization” of the floors, allowing the user to see what is happening on each one. Just as modernism spoke of the open floor plan, here we are seeking, in a way, the open section.
Looking around us, we understand that Matadero, apart from the artists, would be nothing without visitors. Its profile is so open that it forces the program to be open as well. At this point, the architect becomes a mere “croupier,” distributing possibilities to the user and leaving it up to them to decide how to use them. In this way, NAVE 8 would not only be a simple accommodation for artists but also a space in which their mere presence would provoke interaction between the people who inhabit it, both temporarily and occasionally. This would allow for a series of events and uses that are as broad as they are heterogeneous.
