Concurso organizado por la ONG Building Trust en colaboración con la ONU. The aim of the competition is to design a master plan capable of accommodating 3,000 low-cost housing units for workers in local industries near the site. Work will be carried out on an undeveloped area covering 70,000 square meters, located on the banks of the Prek Thnot River.
Our proposal aims to give users of the homes a certain degree of flexibility. In a project of this magnitude, in which standardization processes will be crucial to reducing construction costs, we consider it essential to give the different residential units an individual and personal character. Users should leave their mark on their home, avoiding the creation of ghettos.
This creates a basic structural framework for the buildings that will allow for controlled movement of the habitable modules. These modules will be placed on top of the structure, expanding and formalizing each of the blocks in the plan. Another premise of the base grid is that the original unit of 36.00 square meters can be expanded to twice its size, thus allowing the user’s prosperity to be reflected in their home.
Both in the development of the unit and in the urban positioning of the residential blocks, aspects such as ventilation, views, and orientation have been taken into account, optimizing the bioclimatic performance of the design.
